The Obama Meter...

Here's a fantastic site i got referred to on the internet

the Obameter

PolitiFact has compiled about 500 promises that Barack Obama made during the campaign and is tracking their progress on our Obameter. We rate their status as No Action, In the Works or Stalled. Once we find action is completed, we rate them Promise Kept, Compromise or Promise Broken.
a nice site to see what he does and what he doesnt

there's 5 that are completed and one he's compromised on

And with the news of the Gitmo camp set to close in 12 months, the lifting of the ban on abortion funds and the current big news -Green light for US stem cell work i'm sure those 5 will be bumped up fast to much more!

Barack Obama Campaign Promise No. 125:Direct military leaders to end war in Iraq

On Jan. 21, 2009 -- his first full day in office -- President Obama met privately with the military commanders in charge of Iraq.
"During the discussion, I asked the military leadership to engage in additional planning necessary to execute a responsible military drawdown from Iraq.
"In the coming days and weeks, I will also visit the Department of Defense to consult with the Joint Chiefs on these issues, and we will undertake a full review of the situation in Afghanistan in order to develop a comprehensive policy for the entire region."

Barack Obama Campaign Promise No. 239:Release presidential records

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 - On his first day in office, Obama fulfilled a promise to roll back some Bush administration restrictions on presidential records. He signed an executive order that restored a 30-day timeframe for former presidents to review records before they are released. It also eliminated the right for the vice president or family members of former presidents to do the reviews.

Barack Obama Campaign Promise No. 241: Require new hires to sign a form affirming their hiring was not due to political affiliation or contributions

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 - In one of his first acts as president, Barack Obama kept a campaign promise to reduce political influence in his administration by signing an executive order on Jan. 21, 2009.
The "Executive Order on Ethics Commitments by Executive Branch Personnel" requires that appointees sign forms saying that they were not hired because of political affiliations or contributions.
Obama "requires that government hiring be based upon qualifications, competence and experience, not political connections,"

Barack Obama Campaign Promise No. 427: Ban lobbyist gifts to executive employees

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 - In one of his first acts as president, Barack Obama kept a campaign promise to toughen ethics rules, signing an executive order on Jan. 21, 2009.
"If you are a lobbyist entering my administration, you will not be able to work on matters you lobbied on, or in the agencies you lobbied during the previous two years," Obama said at the signing ceremony. "When you leave government, you will not be able to lobby my administration for as long as I am president. And there will be a ban on gifts by lobbyists to anyone serving in the administration as well."

Barack Obama Campaign Promise No. 503: Appoint at least one Republican to the cabinet

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 - By our reading, Obama only needed to appoint one Republican to his cabinet to satisfy this promise - and he did.
In a Dec. 1, 2008, press conference to announce his national security team, Obama said he asked Robert Gates to continue as Secretary of Defense. Gates has served under several Republican administrations, including as national security advisor and then director of central intelligence under the elder Bush, George H. W. Bush.
While that still left Obama technically one shy of a Republican on his cabinet, he put the issue to rest on Dec. 19, when he nominated Ray LaHood, a former congressman from Illinois, to serve as his Secretary of Transportation.
LaHood is a no-doubt-about-it Republican. In fact, he presided over the impeachment vote against President Bill Clinton. Heck, his son, Sam LaHood, worked on the McCain campaign.

Why for alot of people this was the moment of the day...

There.

That is the moment of the day. right there. not the swearing in ceremony, not the shakira concert, not the millions of people lining up to get inside the ring of steel, not the moment obama put his hand on the bible, kissed his wife, went for the walk

but this

George W. Bush leaving washington as a former president. the reign of the tyrant is over. bring on the democracy.

lets be honest - the election of obama had more to do with the change of scenary that bush left.

people wanted bush out. ok he was going to go anyway. but his doctrine, his policies were set to stay - his party was set to stay.

the alternative was chosen and won in a good victory. not a landslide but a victory. people who had voted republican all their life were voting democrat. change change change - that should be the word of the year 2008.

so they changed the party in power. the democrats may do this and that but its still what we want - change.

so that pic highlights the moment it happened - change - the change from one tyrant to another one (?)

i feel sorry for obama the hopes and dreams of so many people are on him - they're really hoping he can do some jesus level things.

amen.

Oba-ma-nia

DEMOCRACY IS DEAD!!

no really

i mean its gotta be!

we have our say we tell them what we, the people want and still the politicians do what they want to.

I was going to throw in a statistic like 15,000 on december 11th marched against the iraq war - before it happened - a clear sign that people didnt want it...

so i thought yeah i'll google it. i did. so instead of giving you one statistic - Protests against Iraq War has its own Wiki page...

ok wiki isnt the greatest source ever but its a good start...

On September 24, Tony Blair released a document describing Britain's case for war in Iraq. Three days later, an anti-war rally in London drew a crowd of at least 150,000 and probably around 400,000.
lets average the above. 250,000 people. a quarter of a million people took time out to unite and say we the people do not support this stance against war. i'm sure many more were unable to come. i'm sure many wrote into their local MP's so that they vote no for the war.

October 2002, Obama said "I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars" no nothing major there after all who was obama back then?

the Halloween 2002 anti-war protests raged around the world.

feb 2003 marches again all over the world - the biggest of its kind. Listed by the 2004 Guinness Book of Records as the largest protest in human history.

1 in 30 of the population that day protested in the uk.

The diversity of the crowd was one of the most surprising things. it wasnt just the muslims, or the SWP but bog standard general folk. people who probably would be seen last at the rallies. football fans bringin their brothers in arms to come together. housewives, poets, writers, dentists, butchers and likewise.

3 million went to march in Rome, Italy. 150 cities in the USA (100,000 in NY), 70 in canada,

basically, the world marched. the world, its people, of whose governments are so proud that they are indeed democracies, they all marched. people of all communities - not only the usuals but also the unusuals. people who vote left wing who vote right wing and the centre too. they were all there.

yet this was the day democracy failed.

the british govt decided that despite its people not wanting the war, despite the obvious risks of disharmony and chaos, the war was worth it. the evidence was flawed and a million other reasons have been since given by the leaders of that time.

but surely.

the people spoke. the people put them in power to do their bidding. if they say no that surely means no?

and what of protests? is there any meaning behind them anymore? is there a point? no one listens or considers them.

so israel is bombing the crapola outta gaza, and people are protesting (some by throwing their shoes!).

is there a point? who's going to watch and listen?

same protesters. different leader. same shit.

Has Hamas done the impossible?

have they?

what israel couldnt do in the last 70 years?

what the jews couldnt do in the last 1000 years?

what the christians couldnt do in the last 1000 years?

course i'm talking about the israeli land invasion and the constant attacks. today an attack killed 30 people and injured 55 at a UN ran school. the UN's teeth were long blunted even before this incident and long before the usa invaded iraq - that did alot of the damage to the UN though - it was like yeah ok we know what your saying but we're still going to do what we were gonna anyway and its not as if you can stop us...

but they've done. well done hamas. bravo. i dont know how you managed it

but you did it.

finally they've managed to isolate the whole palestine/gaza region from any support they had.

ok sarkozy's gone over and trying to negotiate a peace treaty. syria is vowing to help hamas. iran is speaking against the humanitarian crisis. and i think jordan said something.

clearly we were expecting too much for america to say something, britain was going to tow the line and do the whole we need to work on diplomacy thing just as they did during the lebanon crisis. its rather disappointing. saudi couldnt speak even if hamas gave it a lap-dance. egypt are tired of trying to be the hospitable neighbour. iraq's been gagged in its s&m game with usa.

any other countries now are too tired of this constant fight. i think they've thought sod it, how long are we gonna try to help them if they dont want to be helped?

hamas's strikes into israel has really pushed the boat in the other direction. the whole incident is of their own making they should've behaved themselves. no govt in the world can really support gaza and hamas without making it look like they're supporting terrorism.

what is a tragedy is the lack of help israel is allowing into gaza to help the civilians. there simply isnt enough being done to help them. red cross and other charities are clearly struggling to keep anything flowing. no aid nothing.

i guess all we can do is hope that come obama time there'll be more neutrality in america's stance than there is at the moment.
