Why i think obama is v2.0 of a brit...

the brit in question is none other than Tony Blair.

ok ok hear me out yeah? forget the tony blair aged 10 of his premiership. - look at the tony blair age 0.

when he came on the scene - how sick were brits of the conservatives? even though it was john major that was in charge alot of the crap he carried was from the thatcher era. reports of corruption and were just coming out of the first gulf war.

the conservative's election campaign lacked direction whereas labour were easily targetting the weak points and in their young energetic leader they found a great focal point.

Tony blair had made a rapid rise within the party, a qualified barrister.

Blair trounced Major in the election. it was a new day. britain woke up the next day with great hope. their charismatic new leader would lead britain back to the promised land.

the youthfulness, the appeal to the centre, the whole new start new change, the bringing britain back to the front of the international scene, the man who promised to do right, a father to a young family but here's the one thing that makes me think obama is a page out of the blairite book of politics.

spreading the wealth.

whilst tony never used the phrase to such prominence he executed to brilliant effect. such brilliance that the conservatives didnt even realise it was happening till it had happened. like the republicans they were keen on people making it for themselves, but blair wrong-footed their poorly led party and did everything to great usage.

the introduction of the national minimum wage, passed in 1999, was set at £3.50 ph for adults and by the time he left his tenure it was £5.50, around 1.5/2 million people benefitted from this.

One of the first things Blair did was to give the bank of england independance to set the rate of interest. something obama will have to look at closely, but back then helped the british economy a great deal.

He knew he had to sit down and talk to IRA to end the troubles, something obama will have to and has said he will do with Iran and other groups within Iraq.

he put in legislation to aid gay and lesbian rights, which i'm sure obama will do especially in california with constitution 8.

Blairs finest hour internationally was without a doubt during the Kosovo war and the role he and Great britain played. the prominence and his international diplomacy to encourage NATO and others to intervene saved many lives no doubt. sadly this international praise he received gave him the taste for international intervention that played greatly in the 2nd half of his premiership to such bad effect.

obama should look somewhat towards Blair and see how he did things and realise which way the lie of the land is.

Blair was exceptional at surrounding himself with the right people. Peter Mandelson, Alaister Darling amongst others was the thing he needed so that his own back was watched at all times. one only has to look at the way he advised the royal family during the death of diana, just exactly how media savvy he and his team was. the respect the media gave him was highlighted by the fact no paper reported an alleged family problem in 2004.

his legacy would have been something of greatness had it not been for the iraq war which like bush will dog him for years to come. just his mere presence in singapore gave london the olympics in 2012, his internation reputation doing its work.

obama. learn the lessons and avoid the pitfalls.

And the obama bandwagon will roll on...

the amount of good will that obama will get simply for winning this election is incredible.

world leaders are tripping over themselves to be along side him, opposition leaders want to be like him, and the people wish he was their leader instead.

it just goes to show how sick and tired they were of the policies coming out of the west wing. alot of the goodwill is due to that feeling, bush is going.

watching newsreels of people all over the world just shows the flood of hope obama's election has made.

a nice sayin thats come about...

Martin walked, so Obama could run…
Obama is running, so our children can FLY!

...from NPR interviewing a dude in St. Louis Missouri.

no doubt its a very historic moment this and it does seem like a world away from the hose pipes and the baton charges. all within lifetimes of those people who experienced them. within a lifetime of someone who was around the slavery period.

maybe it is a new generation coming through. maybe it is new thinking.

maybe the reports that the KKK's membership is at an all time low are true.

but looking to the future mustnt make us forget what our past made us.

Black man given nations worst job...

WASHINGTON—African-American man Barack Obama, 47, was given the least-desirable job in the entire country Tuesday when he was elected president of the United States of America. In his new high-stress, low-reward position, Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation's broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis. As part of his duties, the black man will have to spend four to eight years cleaning up the messes other people left behind. The job comes with such intense scrutiny and so certain a guarantee of failure that only one other person even bothered applying for it. Said scholar and activist Mark L. Denton, "It just goes to show you that, in this country, a black man still can't catch a break."

hahahaha class!!

one thing we're all forgetting - the goodbye to the axis of evil...

surely we have to do that too?

say goodbye to the infamous axis of evil? the current incumbant the 43rd president of the united states. Mr George W. Bush.

and this is how it was all 8 yrs ago.

onto the steps of lincoln memorial with ricky martin everything held so much promise. here was the guy to replace bill clinton, the man who saddled the white house with so much controversy. perjury, cigars and interns. dubya was the prodigal son who was finally doing something right - he'd set washington on a straight path...

it wasnt going too good a year into his residency, too many holidays, barely there to run the country then one fateful september morning...

wether you wonder what he thought as he sat in that classroom as he read with kids... this was his moment. 90% approval ratings. there was nothing he could do that the people wouldnt love him for it. except one thing. go to war. which is exactly what he did.

so off he went on his crusade. the first one was valid enough. afganistan - harbouring the worlds terrorists...

its been downhill after that.

doctored evidence for the wmd's, using up all his goodwill the americans got after 9/11, dragging a statesman like powell through the mud, too many publicity shots, too little results

his unpopularity got so bad that its forever tainted those that lined up with him. blair's ten year legacy as good as it could've been will forever been tainted by this. the french who chose not to align themselves with them have seen their world status raised.

whereas even kerry used clinton somewhat in his campaign - mccain kept him at arms length and made sure he was seen as little as possible with bush

he even hit the line with obama "i think you should've ran 4 years ago since your so keen on labelling your opponent bush."

8 years. 8 years of a very dark time in american history.

Election day pics...

and how this picture could've told such a different story....

out in afganistan - near the pakistan border...

the frenzy that has followed this election will be remembered for years...
without a doubt - the biggest story since the primaries began...

Cometh the hour, cometh the man...

...and now the calm...

it is...

its just the big breath before the plunge...

everyone's there on the booths votin away... 3 hours of queues in some places!!

sad news about obama's grandmother passing away.

finally some good news for Gov. Palin. too little too late though. a 2nd probe has cleared her of any abuse of power.

more bad news for the economy - General Motors (GM) reports sales down an incredible 47%! ford down a shocking 30% and chrysler down 36%

GM in alot of trouble here.

muslim women in the news again. this time a woman who was jailed sued the jail for making her remove the scarf during a search. now they have to provide a private area for muslim women during searches and must be given county given head scarves in the presence of men.

Medina, 30, was arrested in December 2005 in Pomona for having an invalid train pass. She spent 12 hours in jail but was never prosecuted.
wow. invalid train pass? and its cost orange county, CA $45K. thats an expensive refund!

and finally sad news - the economy is startin its bite now... more and more homeless families with kids are coming onto the streets.

with higher food and fuel prices its too much for some, and housing aid is being asked for.

Let the Issues be the issue...

Mccain's turning into Ross from friends in the fake tan episode!!

Road safety or Entertainment?

That there is mr Jeremy Clarkson driving through a wall at 56 mph.

he emerged from the wreck apparently screaming in agony, with bruises to his leg, back and finger, but has since made a good recovery.

so why has he done it?

He said that he had decided before being allowed on the road, "everyone should be made to drive at high speed into a wall."

He added: "At the moment, teenagers see Bruce Willis driving his car into a helicopter and imagine that you can get out afterwards and still be well enough to punch a baddy in the face.

"This isn't accurate. I emerged from my high speed head-on impact in what can only be described as screaming agony. I couldn't walk. I couldn't talk. I couldn't think."

i mean come on - really?? i mean do we really drive through crashes, walls and helicopters cause we know that bruce willis can? rubbish!! we all know its a movie and the die hard films are meant to be OTT if we wanted to see real life crime we'd stick to watching the bravo channel and the constant repeats of police camera action

dont get me wrong - i LOVE top gear - i think its fantastic - its a motoring lads mag. its not about cars anymore its about what they can do to them. how they can speed them, race them across europe whilst having the time of their lives thanks to our license fee.

but its dumb of clarkson to start claimin he's doin this to show "accidents hurt" duhhhhh

thats what our 4 yr old cognotive brains told us when we fell down - accidents hurts - try not to fall down again.

Lil wee bushie is crying...

boo hoo

dubya and his staff are apparently sad.

they've not been able to spend the last 100+ days of their residency at the white house doing stuff to cement their legacy. you, stuff like stopping a war, making peace, solving world hunger, helping out the global environment and of course helping the yankees win the world series - they really wanted to do the last one...

so whats he sad about? really?

White House staffers, who believe Bush's reputation has been unfairly maligned for a series of calamities -- from the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to the financial crisis -- that were beyond his control and that he handled well. GOP nominee John McCain's escalating attacks on Bush's tenure have added to the irritation, these people said.
aaaaaaaaaaaaah so he well handled them - but they werent his fault... ok ok so i'll give him 9/11 that was some loonies fault. but surely the financial crisis was partially his fault. he could've reversed or stopped the motions clinton had set into place

and how has he handled it well?! post 9/11 has been nothing but a disaster - its ruined him - single handedly

even if he left the economy intact and in great shape - the hatred for the reactions of 9/11 have been nothing short of detrimental.

i can see his point though about legacy. Reagan had the communist/iron curtain battle and won that. his dad had the gulf war, clinton had cigars and popularity. he's got nothing. nada zilch.

not even his own party wants to know him - where's the i'm the president of the united states and i support john mccain rallies?

A Washington Post-ABC News tracking poll last week put Bush's approval rating at 24 percent and found that McCain had made little headway in separating himself from Bush or his policies.
all this spells nothing but bad news for mcsame and the republican party - the disection of this defeat 2008 has already begun amongst the upper levels of the party...

"normal" service will resume shortly...

sorry for the lack of updates or owt

there's been some great stories
